Teja Gavankar (b. 1986, Mumbai) is a multidisciplinary artist known for her sculptural and drawing-based explorations of space, perception, and materiality. She holds a BFA from L.S. Raheja School of Art, Mumbai (2006), and an MVA in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University, Baroda (2014). She also completed a certificate in Indian Aesthetics from Mumbai University. Teja’s practice transforms ordinary materials and spaces, engaging with the tensions between subjective experience and objective form to question how we perceive and inhabit environments.
Her first international solo show was held at The Optica Centre for Contemporary Art, Montreal (2017), followed by a solo booth at India Art Fair (2025). She has exhibited in A Room Of One’s Own (Sakshi Gallery, 2023), Parsec (Gallery ARK, 2022), Hub India: Maximum Minimum (Artissima, Italy, 2021), and Patterns of Intensity (Art Alive, 2021). In 2018, she collaborated with Case Design for the Venice Architecture Biennale.
Teja is the recipient of the Nasreen Mohamedi Award (2014), a Junior Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture (2017–18), and the Space118 Fine Arts Grant (2020). She has participated in several national and international residencies and currently teaches design at the Academy of Architecture, Rachana Sansad, Mumbai.
